Austin & Jen's Wedding: March 23, 2007

We were delighted to attend Austin & Jen's wedding in Melbourne. Austin is an old friend of Craig's from High School (Haileybury) whom has remained a close friend. Recent adventures with Austin and the lovely Jen included a joint trip to Cyprus in July (2007) photos of which can be found in the archives of the blog.

The wedding ceremony took place in a uniquely round-shaped and ornate church in the city center. The reception was on the North edge of the city in a restaurant/pub owned by Jen's brother-in-law. Craig and I had our eyes peeled throughout, taking note of all in preperation for our own festivitied planned for later in the year.

Some of the highlights included good speeches (a seemingly essential key feature in Australian weddings), Croatian dancing (spent the whole time clumsily trying to figure out which foot to put out when) and the controversial cake head-butt that occured in the end of the evening. Jen and Austin had a beautifully sculpted towering cone of profiteroles as a wedding cake to cut, but more decorative than edible. Robbie Kent a.k.a. "The Big Red Bus" tempted fate by gently knocking his noggin on the tip of the cake. Groom Austin couldn't resist and thrust his whole head right through the cake. There were a few moments of cake-smashing ecstasy/chaos as Austin and the Bus repeatedly smashed the profiteroles into Bus's face. His forehead was covered with cream and some kind of strawberry jam. It was only the next day that we discovered the profiteroles had not been filled with any jam at all. Bus woke up with blood on his pillow and red gashes in his forehead! The profiteroles had been shaped using a very sharp caramel substance that provided a few scars and quite a story.
