We left the cold and overcast Edinburgh and flew to the cold and overcast Frankfurt. It had been 7 months since we arrived in Frankfurt from Japan. Now it was time to retrace our steps. The sunny warm days we had experienced in Germany in June were over, but the towns were still beautiful and almost too close to perfect to trust. We had been kindly invited to stay at Mr & Mrs
Haffner's house in
Ingelheim, meaning that we have now stayed at all the
Haffner's households: Max and Angelika in
Mainz when we arrived in June, Michael and
Rike in Hamburg after their wedding, and
Tilman and
Viveca in Bern after cheese making in the Alps with them. Mr & Mrs
Haffner's are both
architects so their house was a delight to spend time in. Possibly the most well organised home I have ever set foot in. Unfortunately it seemed like Zoe had exerted herself too much with the Scottish dancing and had come down with a cold, so spent most of our time in Germany in bed. But Craig borrowed a bicycle and road north along the Rhine River, discovering yet more Germany castles.
